The ‘windows of wonder’ have been opened for generations of schoolchildren since Bodyke National School was built in 1881 and on Thursday 25 June 2015 we were shown the product of the imagination of today’s wonderful group of students. A beautiful mosaic was unveiled by Clare hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald on the gable wall facing Bodyke village. This mosaic , facilitated by local artist Nathalie El Baba , is the work of all the children in the school and represents their interest in sport, music, fishing , farming and in their surroundings. The unveiling took place in the presence of all the children in the school, the teachers, parents and grandparents , Fr Donagh O’Meara PP and the board of management as well as Mr Joe Cooney MCC and Mr Pat Hayes MCC.
Welcoming all present Principal Miss Neylon praised the children and teacher Miss Ryan for their wonderful work and she thanked Liam Wiley for his input. In her turn Miss Ryan thanked all the children whose ideas were behind the design and who worked hard to complete the project. Davy Fitzgerald praised the teachers in Bodyke NS for their imagination and initiative in this respect and he wished the children happy holidays and urged them to continue to develop their interest in their hobby whether that be hurling , golf, fishing or whatever. He also promised the children that Clare would be involved in some great hurling matches throughout the summer!
After the unveiling , and after the Junior Entrepreneur Flag had been raised outside the school , all present enjoyed some wonderful food and refreshments cheerfully served by parents of children in the school.
If you are passing Bodyke NS do please stop and have a look at the fantastic mosaic which gives us even more reason to be proud of our parish schools and in the meantime please check out the school website and the Bodyke NS Creative Schools Blog.
