Rebecca Lloyd from Milford House spoke to a gathering in Coolreagh on Tuesday 8th March about Milford’s Compassionate Communities project and of how she would like to see some people in the parishes of East Clare getting together to establish local groups to help those dealing with death and bereavement. Rebecca said that while death, dying, loss and grief is everybody’s business we are not really prepared to deal with them. We can learn how to support each other and Milford will provide all necessary assistance.
The Milford Compassionate Communities project is divided into what they call Cafe Conversations (where people meet informally to share experiences which would benefit others) , Good Neighbour Programme (where trained parishioners would visit a neighbour who may be experiencing a serious illness and discuss requirements) and Voluntary Community Bereavement Support (where trained volunteers would visit the bereaved to answer questions and maybe share their own experiences of bereavement). Rebecca’s audience was impressed with what they heard and hopefully her visit might lead to the establishment of Compassionate Community Groups in Bodyke & Tuamgraney and in other East Clare parishes in due course.
