On the weekend of 23rd/24th July 2016, while Fr Donagh O’Meara PP was leading a group of 30 young people from the Diocese of Killaloe at the World Youth Gathering in Poland, parishioners of Bodyke & Tuamgraney and Ogonnelloe gathered to pray, to celebrate Sunday Liturgy and to receive Holy Communion. This was a follow-up to the lay-led liturgies which had first been held in our two parishes in January.
These lay-led liturgies ensured that all four churches in the two parishes were open and prayerful and vibrant on this July weekend with prayers and the usual readings as well as hymns and appropriate music. These liturgies prepare us for a time in the future when there may not be a priest available to celebrate Mass in each church every weekend and when the responsibility for holding Sunday services will fall to the parish communities. Those who prepared and participated in these particular liturgies received great help and encouragement from Fr Donagh and from Maureen Kelly, Pastoral Worker for the Diocese of Killaloe.
