Resumption of Masses

Members of the Parish Pastoral Council met with Fr David recently to discuss the Bishops Framework Document for Return to Public Celebration of Mass and the Sacraments. It will be difficult to follow social distancing guidelines and hygiene protocols with seating capacity greatly reduced in both churches. As the Bishops have announced that the Sunday obligation to attend Mass is not in place during the pandemic we would ask that if you can attend Mass on a day other than Sunday to please do so and this would then allow those who cannot attend during the week to come to Sunday Mass.
As Tuamgraney Church would have a capacity of less than 40 it has been decided to switch the vigil Mass on Saturdays to Bodyke at 7pm; the Sunday morning Mass remains in Bodyke at 9.30am. There will be a Mass in Tuamgraney on Saturday morning at 9.30am which we hope will reduce attendances at all Masses. The 10am Wednesday and Friday Masses in Tuamgraney and Bodyke will resume as normal. We ask respectfully that you would attend only one Mass during the week and it would be preferable if that was the same Mass each week. Stewards will be in place to ensure safe spacing and cleaning of churches will take place after each Mass. Your help is needed and if you can give five minutes after Mass to help with sanitising it would be greatly appreciated. Contact the parish office or simply volunteer on the day you go to Mass. Please note that these arrangements are temporary and will be reviewed if social spacing cannot be maintained. Please check the parish newsletter and website and social media for further updates.
Many parishes are changing Mass times and some churches will not have Sunday Masses so you are advised to check before deciding to go elsewhere. We appreciate the changes may cause inconvenience but we will ask for your understanding so that as many people as possible can attend Mass safely and in line with guidelines from the Bishops and the HSE.
Mass Servers will not be required at Masses for the time being and we thank all those who have given such dedicated service through the past year.
Eucharistic Ministers and Sacristans will be contacted over the coming weeks regarding availability and we will completely understand and accommodate those who would rather not attend church for the time being. There will be a change in the distribution of Holy Communion and this will be announced at Masses. Collections will not be taken up during Mass; boxes will be available for your contribution in the porches of churches.
Training for Stewards will take place on Tuesday 30th June at 8.30pm in the Church of the Assumption Bodyke and this will cover both churches.
