Tuamgraney Development Association

Tuamgraney Development Association (T.D.A.) is a voluntary, non-profit, community development organisation which supports local, integrated, social and cultural development. It comprises of a diverse group of people working together to utilise opportunities that exist to promote and develop our community, to improve the quality of life, safeguard the environment and our distinctive heritage and culture. The T.D.A., working with the community, aims to ensure that priority attention is given to improving the quality of people’s lives by making Tuamgraney a better place in which to live, work and play.

Tuamgraney Development Association was formed in April 1996 in response to public demand to improve Tuamgraney village life. The T.D.A. elects officers and a committee at its AGM held each January. Because of the diverse nature of its remit there are a number of sub-committees reporting to the committee of the T.D.A. who are responsible for the overall running of the association. The committee also works with people from various backgrounds – from engineers, landscape contractors, local business, schools & parish council when the need arises. Pride in our village ensures that natives and new arrivals to Tuamgraney are very active in promoting the village.

Monthly Meetings

The TDA monthly meetings are held on the 1st Monday of every month in Hassett’s Lounge, Tuamgraney, at 8pm. Meetings last only an hour and you won’t get a job by attending but you will get a welcome.

Achievements in 2014

TDA continued its excellent work in 2014 and as a consequence Tuamgraney received many accolades during the year, which is testament to the dedication and hard work of the association.

In April Tuamgraney Community Woodland was chosen by Clare County Council to represent County Clare in the Eco Community Initiative in the 2014 IPB Pride of Place Competition and at the November awards ceremony in Tracey’s West County Hotel, Ennis, was awarded 1st runner up prize.

Tuamgraney was once again successful in the Supervalu Tidy Towns Competition in 2014, and for the third year in a row was awarded a Bronze Medal at the Awards Ceremony in the Helix, Dublin, on Monday 8th September. The presentation of the Bronze Medal took place in Killarney on Friday December 12th.

In the Clare in Bloom this year, Tuamgraney was the overall winner in population category (300+) of the competition. Representatives of TDA attended a ceremony at Áras Contae an Chláir on Monday night October 13th to receive their award.

TDA also continued its “45 Lotto Draw” in 2014. This was launched in 2013 and the prize of a guaranteed €200 is determined by the Bonus Number from the Main Lotto Draw on the last Saturday of each month. Envelopes containing numbers from 1 to 45 at €10 each can be purchased from any TDA member. It has been decided to continue the Lotto draws in 2015.

Throughout 2014 TDA also ran a number of fundraising Bingo sessions in Scariff Community College, which proved very popular, so much so that TDA have planned two Afternoon Bingos for February and March.

TDA continues to work closely with both Tuamgraney National School and Scariff Community College.

The association will continue its good work in 2015 and new members are always very welcome!

Bronze Medal for Tuamgraney in Tidy Towns Competition

Tuamgraney Development Association travelled to the Helix in Dublin on Monday September 10th for the National Tidy Towns prize giving ceremony and came home victorious with a Bronze Medal. After seventeen years in the competition this achievement has not come easy and is the result of many peoples hard work since 1996. Well done to everybody in the village who is involved, whether on the committee or for work put in around your own homes or the public areas in the village throughout the year. TDA sees this as another step on the ladder and there is a lot more work to be done. With an increase of 4 points this year (to 297 points) we are only 15 points behind Abbeyshrule who were announced as overall winners on Monday with 312 points. We can achieve further success but we do need more help and we would welcome this. We need people with a variety of skills – from computers, to planning, to gardening etc. All help is greatly appreciated and let’s build on what we have achieved this week.

Clare in Bloom 2012

Tuamgraney was once again successful in the Clare in Bloom competition this year, taking 1st place in Category 3 of the competition. Members of the TDA attended a presentation at Áras Contae an Chláir on Monday October 8th and the positive feedback from all over the county about Tuamgraney was great to hear. Riverview Estate came 2nd in the Housing Estates category and also received the Judges’ Special Award. We congratulate all of the residents on their continued hard work and development of the estate. This year it looked fantastic and this was also noted in the positive feedback from the National Tidy Towns adjudicator. Well done to all involved. Bodyke village also did very well, receiving an Endeavour Award on the night.

“45 Draw”

Tuamgraney Development Association is currently running a limited monthly “45 Draw” based on the National Lottery. Each participant will select an envelope to reveal a number from 1 to 45.
